Why weeping wands water withered weeds wisely, wastelessly. Whew.
Efficiently using water is a bandwagon we can all jump on. While researching some high-tech products for a lawn and drip irrigation story, I found some decidedly low-tech devices for thirsty houseplants that can save water and ease the burden of an absentee water lord.
The PlantMinder (left) offers a long-term solution to watering plants with its weeping system. The two-part system consists of a plastic bulb and a porous terra cotta base. When soaked and filled with water, the terra cotta slowly delivers water for up to six weeks. Like a car’s fuel gauge, an empty green bulb reminds you that the Minder's low on water.
The Water Spike (right) disperses water evenly through the pot, right to the roots. With a little liquid plant food mixed in, the Spike waters efficiently, accurately, and quickly. Maybe a little too quickly—before I knew it, I had over-watered my plant. But through some creative collection, I can make sure there's still water, water everywhere even if my plants have a little too much to drink.
