My country, tiles of thee

Ed. Note: The Hardware Aisle, in competition with Toolmonger, will feature the most unabashedly patriotic products we can find, every day, until our nation celebrates its 231st birthday. This is part 4 of a series we call This Old Glory.

You'll have to read my September Luxuries column to see just why I've gotten obsessed with the beautifully handcrafted, gorgeously detailed world of art tile. But with July 4th coming this week, I figured I'd give you a sneak preview with some of the more patriotic examples my research turned up.

For the uber-proud and traditionalists loyal to the red, white and blue motif, Cergamic Custom Art Tile offers an oak-framed flag mural (ABOVE). But if this seashelled wonder doesn't exactly blend in with your decor, you could try the more subdued (but no less historically significant) tiles from Moravian Pottery & Tile Works. These include decorative works depicting iconic  Mayflower, and the site of that grand tea-time revolt, Boston Harbour.

No tea was damaged in the making of the tile.
