Fall Drill Preview: The latest, lightest, lithiummiest
Reading the newest lithium-ion drivers' stat sheets sounds more and more like announcing a welterweight on fight night.
Aaand in this corner, weighing in at 1.96 pounds, a 12-volt Sub-Compact Driver straight outta Milwaukee, with 130 screws on a single charge, 30 minutes on the charger, $130 dollars at the register, the inch and an eighth spade-bit-driller, the screw killer, taking the stage with a full fuel gauge.
I'm getting carried away. Simply put: it's a knockout.
You can buy it in mid-October. Until then, one more beauty shot after the jump.
It fits in a tool belt. The quick-change chuck actually works one-handed, and squeezing the trigger shines an LED (like they all should) on whatever you're drilling. Since this only has 100 inch-pounds, the Impactor is still 8 times torque-ier, but the challenger certainly didn't have trouble sticking some 3-inch screws in a 2x4.
It's totally professionally capable, jobsite-tough and all that, but if I may generalize: the women of This Old House have been cradling this thing like it's the drill of their dreams.
More tools we love: Cordless combo kits, kaboodles
Even more: Toolmonger's preview. And their take on the tools this one's up against.

PS Thanks for the bar talk and the slice.
Boooooooo!! Impactor T.K.O.'s Milwaukee in the 8th round.
Love this drill. They need to make a compact led flashlight that uses the same battery. bosch drill is worse but they have an impact and flashlight to match there small hand drill.
