Fowl fire in the turkey fryer
November 14, 2007
Our family Thanksgiving down south wouldn't be complete without a turkey bubbling away in the deep fryer.
This year, though, it might be time to break out the Turkey Cannon instead.
Turns out, according to this sober assessment by the firefighters of the Underwriters' Laboratories, that oily cauldron might not be the safest way to fix our feast.
Honestly, for all its crispy deliciousness, I was never sure deep-fried turkey skin was that safe from an arterial perspective, anyway.

If deep frying a turkey in a propane fryer is too frightening, there is now a jumbo 28-quart electric fryer that is so safe to use that you can perch it on your kitchen counter. In just 45 minutes, you can have a perfectly cooked 14-pound
deep fried turkey. And less than a tablespoon of oil is absorbed by the bird!
