Cord control, from produce to power tools
November 12, 2007
About a year ago, I noticed that certain lettuces--escarole, chickory, dandelion, romaine--were bound with narrow Velcro-lined straps. I began saving these narrow green straps and using them to secure the wounded-up cords of my belt sander, circular saw, drill, jigsaw and other power tools.
The plastic straps are only about 1/2 inch wide x 18 inches long, but they're surprisingly strong. I then began using them to secure extension cords, rope, bunches of dowel rod, and pneumatic air hoses. I even used one recently as a makeshift band clamp to hold together pieces of glued-up wood.
The best part, of course, is that these handy little plastic straps are free. All you need to do is add a bit more green roughage to your diet.
