New driver tallies torque when turning screws
November 30, 2007
We're always looking for new takes on the old screwdriver, and one in this month's Garrett Wade catalog seemed to have quite an interesting, ahem, twist.
It's an adjustable torque driver. You set the torque, between 2 and 36 inch-pounds, and the driver will not exceed your setting by a single inch-pound more.
When met with resistance, rather than damaging your delicate brass screws, the screwdriver just spins.
I don't know if I'd appreciate the added precision, or just be irritated that I was continually "overdoing" it, in my tool's opinion. What do you folks think?

Looks like what I might be looking for, a torque driver for tapping threads, to avoid snapping the tap inside the hole.
Then I need some sort of fitting to adapt from 1/4 hex to whatever is the size of the tap. (open to suggestions)
