Ultra-slim stone sink: now you see it, now you don't
November 29, 2007
If you want something in your bathroom to make visitors stop and stare, but can't afford a Swavorski-encrusted toilet, try this relatively more affordable (at $1,610) ultra-thin floating vanity from Stone Forest.
This picture alone made me wonder how the slab manages to stay supported, especially considering the equally thin and frail-looking plumbing that connects to it.
Turns out the 3-foot wide vanity, which they hand-carve from a single block of travertine, is held from beneath by a slender 22x17-inch bracket that supports about 2/3 of the 100-pound stone.
The illusion is not only cool, however, but also space-saving. So if you get too wigged out by all that empty air, you can always fill it with a hamper or towel rack.
