LIVE FROM IBS: Save trees, use refrigerator as notepad

February 13, 2008

This just in from Harry Sawyers at the 2008 International Builders' Show in Orlando, Florida:

A product rep demonstrates Amana's new Jot Fridge at the 2008 International Builders' Show. The idea is that the dry-erase board on the fridge can be used to write grocery lists, notes to the family, or take phone messages. We decided on a different message, though—a Valentine from Amana to us at TOH.

I love this idea. It would be great for lists (except you can't take it with you) and would be great for our kids to draw on. The only thing would be trying to figure out where we would put all our pictures, magnets, etc! :)

I found this video to be a little too "cutesy". I would have liked to have seen and heard more about the product.

When it comes to appliances, I want my refrige to keep things cold, my washer to wash my clothes clean, my vacuum to pick up my two husky's hair. Simple as that. The more gimics, the more problems, the bigger the price tag. The board is a good idea, but, how much does it add to the cost? If I were to pay $400 plus for a Dyson vacuum, a guy better come with it to do the vacuuming! Manufacturers have made us think that disposable is norm. We pay good money and our things don't last like they did, when I was growing up. And, my biggest chuckle, is this push for stainless steel appliances! As a Crime Scene Detective -- last thing I would want to do, when I get home, after a long day, is clean fingerprints (paw prints) off my refrige!

Where has this been all my life!! Up til now, if I wanted to jot notes on a fridge, I had to attach a whiteboard that had magnets on the back. This fridge could've saved me $6.99 and 5 minutes work!

Hey Ive seen the video and also read the comments posted by others....well I've been doing that for several years writing on my frig with A dry erase marker it comes right off no problem...who needs a whiteboard???? It's just when drunken drinkin buddies grab a permanent marker that it takes some good ole elbow grease to remove but it does come off....I've got a string around the marker an tied to the frig door which also amuses my cats.....Amana just needs to speed things up an get with the program I thought about it near as I can remember 15 years ago the smooth refig's are great the crinkle surfaced ones are a bit harder to remove the dry eraser you know the ones they claim are easier to clean the outside surface hogwash they are harder to clean then a smooth surface one....and magnets mine came from one of them brand new ones when the door gasket refused to stick and needed to be replaced i ripped out the magnet from the door gasket and handed the gasket material back to the repairman
