Live from the Kitchen and Bath Show: Elkay's utility sink prototype

April 13, 2008

This sink prototype from Elkay is designed for the garage

Before I begin this post, I should let you know this cool little sink is a prototype from Elkay, meaning it may never go into production, though it's such a great idea, I don't see how it couldn't. Designed to go in the garage or laundry room, it has a special bucket filler, which allows you to fetch water for things like washing the car or mopping floors with far less effort. (An idea that sounds great to me considering the persistent backache I have from carrying around a stack of press kits at the show.)  Below is a close-up of the paint brush cleaner accessory.  After cleaning brushes on the ribbed edge, you can attach them via magnets so they can drip dry. If only all utility sinks were this useful.

Looks like a great idea if they can keep the price in the reasonable range.

That is pretty cool. I especially like the paint brush magnet. I'm always trying to hang them above the sink somehow. What's the chance this sink has an amazing, easy clean filter so I can dump buckets of nasty water without worry of clogs?

it would be even nicer if it was the drainwater that went into the bucket, not fresh new water. that way, you could use the water for watering the garden or flushing toilets.

Looks like a winner. Wonder how much it would go for?

An attachable (and detachable) hose could be added to a regular utility sink to fill buckets and any good handyman can invent something for cleaning and drying the brushes.

this sink doesn't look as deep as my present one which i like because of the generous size and depth. (my little dog likes his bath there too!)
