A slightly sexier stainless steel sink

It's already steel and sleek. Can you possibly make the contemporary look of a stainless steel sink even more modern and cool? Designers at Sterling, a Kohler Company, thought that marking the basin with an subtle X pattern might freshen up its familiar image. And actually, the small detail does add interest—when the sink is empty and clean.

It's just a subtle impression crisscrossing the bottom of the bowl. But who knows—patterns on stainless steel might be a trend to look out for. After all, Sterling's Carthage collection does come from a subsidiary of Kohler and not a small fly-by-night firm. Beyond the fresh look, these sinks have a solid 18-gauge thickness and silent performance in the face of clanging pots; rubber sound-reduction pads adhered to the underside of the basin guarantee quiet use. Watch the home center to see if other companies follow suit.
