Eat this house
I’ve been watching this abandoned old house for years, wondering if anyone would ever buy it and restore it. It’s on a quiet street on the back way to the interstate highway. Several years ago, someone spray painted ATE in huge red and white letters on the side. At first I thought the letters stood for a fraternity, but now I think they might refer to what the Toll Brothers earth movers are doing to the adjacent hillside.
Bethel Meadows is the name of the town house project that’s going in, and according to their website, it’s “our newest luxury townhome community located in the charming town of Bethel, CT.”
Considering the height of the house, its massing, and the way the second floor windows are tight to the eaves, I suspect it was built in the late 19th Century. There’s also a barn, just out of the frame to the right of the trailer. Chances are neither house nor barn are long for this world. The bucket on the front of that excavator looks like it’s ready to chomp. Stay tuned.
