The death of the scissor?

Skil's new power cutter

Some things can be cut good ol’ scissors, but if you’ve ever had to cut open one of those annoying, ridged plastic packages you’ll appreciate this.

Skil’s 3.6 volt power cutter is a rechargeable, lithium ion powered tool that cuts through tons of different materials up to 1/4-inch thick. Sure it shreds paper and those plastic packages, but it can also cut things like leather, linoleum, and foam insulation. The 10-sided blade automatically sharpens itself on every rotation by rubbing itself against sharpening stone. It’s one of those tools where you’ll find uses for it that are not listed on the box, for example, I effortlessly sliced through with no problem.

Probably one of the handiest uses is cutting gangly cardboard down to size for recycling. The cutter’s comfortable in hand weights less than a pound and has a built in smart charge system which means you can leave the cutter on the charging base without damaging the battery. Now that I have little use for a scissor, if Skil can somehow increase the throat on this to cut drywall I’d probably get rid of my utility knife. The cutter sells for $50 at Lowe’s.
