Sticker shock: Wall decals save you money

ferm LIVING's bold Bamboo print wallpaper

Wallpaper scares me. Not the actual paper itself, of course, but rather the application and removal process. Ever since I helped a friend swap out a woods-theme wallcovering for paint without studying the proper way to handle the job, I’ve stayed away from anything that involves concocting adhesive and stripping solutions.

The thing is, however, I’ve recently fallen for ferm LIVING’s Bamboo wallpaper. The bold graphic design would perfectly enhance my lackluster bedroom, but do I dare face my fear? It’s relatively pricey ($95 per 21-inch x 33-feet roll), and the expense and commitment might be more than I’m prepared to handle.

Blik wall decals are a great alternative to wallpaper Luckily, I’ve come across a less expensive and less labor-intensive alternative to wallpaper—wall decals. Blik, a surface graphic company that produces peel and stick designs and prose for adults and children alike, have won me over with their Bamboo stickers. $40 buys you 22 decals (12, 15-inch stalks and 10 various sized leaves), and they come in either tan or kiwi. Psst, you can customize your decal colors for an extra $10 should their suggested hues not work with your color scheme.

Unlike wallpaper, you can stick these graphics to just about any clean surface, and when you tire of them or need to move, just peel them off—no removal solution is necessary. While wallpaper may create a more unified look, Blik’s decals offer a fresh decorative solution for those of us who wish to transform a space in minutes, and do so while not busting the budget.
