Frank Lloyd Wright For Sale!
Imagine: a Frank Lloyd Wright house of your very own. Impossible, you say? Not so! According to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the William Ross House, one of six Glencoe, Illinois homes designed by Wright in 1915, is available for just $625,000—basically the price of the land alone in this leafy Chicago suburb.
Some neighbors and preservationists are worried the new owner will follow the example of many here, and tear-down this registered city landmark, and replace it with a McMansion. But the Chicago-based Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy is trying to track down a more architecturally sensitive buyer for this three-bedroom, which will require quite a bit of work due to some serious neglect, not to mention water damage. "It really needs a loving person who understands Prairie architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright and can see past all that," Lisa DiChiera, advocacy director for Landmarks Illinios, told the Trust. For more information, contact the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy at 312-663-5500.
