High quality tool bags
I’m happy to say that the tool bags I bought from Sears in 1981 still fit, although I’m on the last notch on the belt and one of the leather nail pockets has a duct-tape patch over a hole in the bottom.
I’d be happier to say that I’d just got new tool bags from Occidental Leather. I’ve coveted their products for a long time at my local lumberyard. All of Occidental’s products are made in Sonoma County, CA, from top quality leather, nylon, thread and rivets.
I don’t know apples about horses and horse stuff, but Occidental’s products look like the carpenter’s equivalent of a fine saddle. When I buckled on a pair of the bags and slipped my hands into the numerous pockets, everything seemed to be right where it should be; someone was thinking when they designed this product. Yeah, they’re expensive, but quality is.
Don’t look for Occidental Leather products in the big box home centers. You can buy them online and at selected quality lumberyards. Occidental’s website will tell you where.

Yep, these bags are the stuff of tool lust. I finally aquired a model about a month or so ago to replace my 23 year old leather tool apron (a tool apron fastens in back, a tool belt fastens in front). It weighs more than my apron so I'm glad I didn't get more pockets than I need, but no doubt this thing will last forever. My son will inherit it. Maybe his son (or daughter). Meanwhile, I figured out how to re-stitch my leather apron using an inexpensive little gizmo called a Speedy Stitcher Sewing Awl. Now the apron will probably last forever, too.
