Totally Bamboo sink that's supposed to last

August 27, 2008

Totally bamboo sink1 I've seen a handful of wood sinks pop up into the market recently, and each time my initial "Ooo, ahh" reaction is pushed aside by the thought of how cruddy the basins will become after a couple of years of watery wear-and-tear.

This new vessel sink from Totally Bamboo, however, comes with a 10-year guarantee on its polyurethane-sealed surface. Made from a single piece of Moso bamboo, which is grown without fertilizers and insecticides, the 6-inch deep bowls are hand-crafted on huge lathes and then rubbed to a low sateen sheen.

What a beautiful, unique--and warm--alternative to porcelain sinks! Definitely worth looking into. I wonder, though, how costly these are, when compared to the porcelain version.

I’m the owner of totally bamboo, the makers of this sink, I want to clarify a misquote in the article, the sink not made from a singe piece of bamboo- it is actually composed of over a thousand tiny sections of bamboo that we laminated together into a large block, from which we turn on a lathe to produce this bowl, and to answer the question of the price it is priced comparable to some porcelain vessels at $499.00

I/ve been a flooring distributor for 35 years, have sold much bamboo + others, now mostly rubber/vynyl/wood, retired, a 10 year wood turner.I ould like to buy a raw block of laminated bamboo from you to turn a bathroom bowl for use in our home.

Appreciate your reply, can send you info on my company, Design Materials of Pasadena, now run by my son Drew.

Thanks you,

I have been to a lot of expos and trade shows that feature bamboo. It is a strong, durable wood that makes for some really beautiful pieces.
