New York's own world's largest garden gnome
If you didn't already have a reason to visit New York, you will once you get to the end of this blog post. Forget Times Square. Forget Martha's Vineyard. Forget Disney World. Instead, head to Kerkonkson, NY to see the Guinness World Record holding world's largest gnome, Chomsky. Standing at 13'6" tall, the prototype of the gnome was made by Maria Reidelbach out of chicken wire and wood. The chicken wire was filled with flowers, which is delightful enough. But, to qualify for the world record Chomsky had to be made completely of cement - which, thankfully, he now is.
Admiring Chomsky isn't all there is to do at the gnome's home, Kelder Farms. The cutie stands in Kelder's "edible mini-golf course" which is landscaped with veggies and berries. The farm is a lush U-Pick with raspberries, blueberries, sweet corn, cabbage, and pick your own farm bouquets. They've also got a cool maze, agro-ed activities for kids, and special events on holidays. Check them out 10-8 daily on Route 209.
