No VOCs in this primer
September 17, 2008
Among the green building products we cover in This Old House, low- and no-VOC paints and finishes are among the most popular. But what’s the point of using them if you spoil your eco-efforts with a VOC-packed primer? Keep in mind there are several primers on the market now that don’t contain volatile organic compounds. The latest is from Olympic Paints—part of the company’s Premium Interior Paints line. The low-odor primer has a 100-percent acrylic formula. Using it will also green up your painting process by requiring you to use less paint, which means less steel used for paint cans, less paper for the paint can labels, and ... OK, now we’re getting in to some greenwashing.
