Do you talk to your plants? They'll talk back with Botanicalls DIY Plant Twitter Kit
With the end of the outdoor gardening season, we're all reintroducing ourselves to the houseplants we ignored while spending time in our awesome backyard gardens.
Want to make nice with your leafy companions? A widely known (and practiced) houseplant care technique is talking to them; giving them a little verbal love. While This Old House can't speak for the effectiveness of the "tip", we can offer you the insane opportunity to construct your own plant-language translation device. With the Botanicalls DIY Plant Twitter Kit ($99.99!!), you can talk to your plant, and it'll talk back via Twitter.
The inconspiculously leaf-shaped thing (left) was designed based on technology created by CERN scientists and requires assembly—good luck; you'll need a soldering iron, needle nose pliers, a flat head screwdriver and a heap of other stuff to do it. The finished product gets plugged into your plant's soil, then connects to a twitter feed especially for your plant online. (See a screen grab of a sample Twitter plant alert after the jump).
All jokes (and the price tag) aside, this could make a fun project. Not to mention, successful completion will up your geek-cred exponentially.

Developing this kind of technology could mean big things in agriculture? Are they already applying this?
We're not actually CERN scientists, but you can read about the Botanicalls team here:
