Foolproof finish
Applying a durable, clear finish to wood is fraught with problems, especially when you have hot-air heat and cats. Inevitably, dust particles and a cat hair or two lands on the finish as it cures, destined to stay there forever, like a fossilized bug in amber. I’d heard of wipe-on polyurethanes, but I just knew they couldn’t be any good because they were easy, and anyone could use them to apply a perfect finish. A recent table-top refinishing project changed my mind about the quality of the finish. Using Minwax wipe-on polyurethane couldn’t be easier. Shake the can, pour some on a lint free rag (an ancient t-shirt is my fave), and wipe it all over the surface. Depending on the relative humidity, the finish will be dry in a couple of hours. Give it a quick sanding with 220-grit sandpaper, and then after wiping the surface with a tack cloth, apply another coat. I applied five coats to my tabletop over the course of the weekend. No muss, no fuss, no brush to clean.

This stuff works great, but its a huge rip-off. Its just regular poly that's been diluted. Its also about 4 time more expensive than the regular Minwax Polyurethane.
