If Dr. Suess designed downspouts
January 16, 2009
If you hate cleaning gutters and downspouts, be thankful you don't live here.
The rain collection system on this home in Dresden, Germany, may be whimsical--or wacky, depending on your viewpoint--but it's not boring.
The downspouts are a carefully designed collection of galvanized-steel pipes and large funnels that carry rainwater from the gutter at the roof's edge down--eventually--to the city's storm drains.
At one point rainwater passes through a "trumpet," and then spills over a series of open troughs before emptying into a funnel attached to a vertical length of drain pipe.

That's hilarious! And the neat thing is that it actually works.

Hi,
I wonder about the eventual sound or noise.
Could it be that its construction has been conceived to offer a pleasant sound ?

I would like to know where this house is. I have a business trip to Germany coming up, and I just happen to be in the neighborhood, I'd like to see it up close.
