Live from the International Builders’ Show: Lennox SunSource System Uses Solar Power
Solar panels are not new, however Lennox has developed an ingenious way of using them to help power a home HVAC system. The company has unveiled SunSource, the first solar-assisted residential heating and cooling system on the market.
The SunSource heat pump system combines a traditional heat pump with a single 190-watt solar panel that measures 3 feet by 5 feet. This panel provides power to assist the unit’s fan during peak daytime periods and can be mounted on the home’s roof, a fence or freestanding pole as long as it faces southwest for maximum exposure.
While it costs more than a standard high-efficiency home HVAC system, SunSource uses 8 percent less energy. Combined with available government tax credits and utility rebates, Lennox is confident the savings will more than pay for the additional cost of the system and ultimately reduce homeowner utility bills and strain on municipal power grids.
A complete SunSource system for the home starts at $10,000.

I’m glad that this article was made. I was enlightened on the status of our climate. and how to save and give value to our environment.
When we moved recently I used the GreenPower guide to check out our options. Speaking with my buying power is what I love most. More ways to do this please!

Great story, especially because a lot of organisations are looking at major projects to save power and reduce their carbon footprint. Something as simple as energy-efficient lights often gets overlooked.
