Live from the International Builders’ Show: Festool Introduces Line of Smart Drills that Perform Big

January 20, 2009

I had my first experience with Festool a few years ago and I’m continually impressed with the quality and engineering that goes into their products.  From saws to sanders and everything in between , these products just seem to make you better in the shop and around the house.  The new line of T12+3 and T15+3 lithium ion cordless drills is no exception.

Ergonomic cordless drill with big power

With near-perfect balance, the Festool T12+3 and 15+3 drills do a lot of the thinking for you.  With an audible beep, the drill indicates if it’s overloaded or when the battery needs to be changed or even when the desired torque is reached when driving screws.  The T12/15+3 can be ordered with a set of interchangeable chucks – standard, right angle and eccentric (off-center).

Both models feature brushless motor technology that allows them to perform much bigger than their indicated size and achieve a remarkable 90 percent efficiency.  Most importantly, the drill, charger and battery all come with a three-year warranty.

Prices start around $500.

Now if they could just bring the price down to the sane level, I'd be all over them.

For $500 I want something that you can send off to work by itself.

it does sound like much at first, but when I add up all the other drills i've purchased in the last 3 yrs, cost is no longer an issue.

Festool drills are a whole lot more drill than you can imagine. The versatile chucks make the biggest difference when compared with any other drill for versaility. There are times that no other drill could possibly fit into a space other than the Festool right angle chuck with a Centrotec bit. I find myself using the special chucks around 50% of the time to make it easier to produce accurate work. The drills are impressive enough to begin with, but with years of use the convenience and well thought out design really grows on you. The brushless stepped servo motor has serious torque and fine control. I just about want to barf after using a cordless drill from any other company when helping others out. The Festool drills are the best deal around when you look at all that they can do.
