Live from the International Builders' Show: World's First Pellet Fireplace

January 20, 2009

Quadra-Fire has introduced the Edge 60, the first pellet fireplace.  Pellets are the fastest growing fuel category and allow people to burn hard and soft wood pellets with high efficiency and for maximum heat (output is rated at 60,000 BTUs).  It’s also multi-fuel capable so you can burn other fuel sources such as switch grass, shelled corn, wheat and walnut shells.

First pellet fireplace for the home

The Edge 60 fireplace is controlled by a programmable wall control and allows homeowners to adjust settings based on the “fuel” burned.  The Edge 60 is 82 percent efficient (compared to 60-70 percent efficiency for traditional wood burning fireplaces) and has an auto self-clean feature. It’s mounted on a slide-out rail system for easy maintenance.

Prices start at $5299.

How is it possible that this product is not to be found on the Quadra Fire website?

Aren't woodburing inserts about $1000? Wood may not burn as efficiently, but for the difference in cost I'd buy the woodburning insert.
