The advent of the giant SUV has been good for body shops across the country. SUVs get into a lot of accidents because they not only handle inadequately, they typically have brakes with less stopping power than some cars. (If you want to know more about the inadequacies of SUVs, read this book.) The size of SUVs also has a lot to do with them needing body work; drivers have no idea where the front, back, or sides of their vehicles are, so they are always running into things. (Witness the popularity of optional back up sensors that beep when your Ford Valdez is about to back into the GM Bhopal behind you.) Anyway, here’s a nifty little laser parking accessory to mount to the ceiling of your garage. When your electric garage door opener starts up, the laser casts a beam toward the floor. Ease your Dodge Chernobyl into the garage (Watch the sides!) and slowly roll forward until the laser beam reaches a predetermined spot on the dashboard, letting you know that the front of your vehicle is close to the front wall of the garage where you used to keep the recycling bins but had to throw them out because you needed room for your car. I read the instruction manual, and it appears that the laser device is easy to install and adjust.

But is it really better than a tennis ball on a string?
