An $80 nail puller...April Fool's, right?

April 1, 2009

cat's paw-nail pulling-Stiletto tools  Nail-pullers-05
My friend Lenny makes a good living and because he doesn’t drink, chase women,  play golf, or fish for trout, he usually has plenty of cash for his only hobby, which is buying tools and working on his house. He has the world’s most expensive cat’s paw, call the Stiletto Clawbar. A cat’s paw is a nail-removing hand tool with  two pointed metal claws on the end. Hammering on one end of a cat’s paw drives the claws into wood and around the head of a driven nail. Push down on the paw’s handle, and out pops the nail.  I have a handful of the things like the one on the right above, have probably lost more than I currently own, but it’s not really a big deal because each one costs about $10.  The Clawbar is made from titanium (rather than rolled steel), it is about a foot long, and it only weighs 8 ounces.  Another special feature of the Clawbar is the dimpler—a stubby tube that you position over a nail to severe the wood fibers, which, ostensibly, makes less of a mess of the wood when you yank the nail.  When Lenny told me that he paid almost $80 for the tool I laughed out loud, and then I asked him if I could borrow it. He said I couldn’t because it was too expensive.  Is it just my recession-wary, New England penury that objects to an $80 nail puller, or am I missing something here?

Seeing my not be believing but using one of these may change your opinion. I have several Stiletto tools which are all titanium. They lighten my tool belt by half at least and don't rust. They may be pricey but for a guy who plans to keep tools for life, you can't beat them.

I understand it, but for all the other guys out there, get yourself the brand new Hail Hunter, or the big aggressive Nail Jack! They actually DIG, Grab and will have many more uses because of the patented pliers like design. Check it! www.thenailjack.com

By the way, I've talked to the guys at Stiletto about coming out with a titanium Nail Jack so we can all have the best of BOTH worlds! Come on Mark!!!

I think I have to agree with "george" this engine does suck. Why is it posting one comment so many times?

Cool tool, but I checked out the Nail Jack as posted by Mike above (like 100 x's). Looks more my speed. From the video it looks like I can pull more fastners than just a nail, which seems more useful to me.

Having a Nail Hunter myself I would never spend more money for less tool!! The Nail Hunter has every thing to offer that the clawbar has but what separates them is the plyer action of the Nail Hunter, the ability to more than just pull nails, and the price tag!! I'll stick with the Nail Hunter and use the money I save on the tool and reclaimed wood on a new pair of shoes or maybe just gas and groceries!!

Really, $80? No doubt it is made of the highest quality, I will give them that! I have seen what others on this blog have been talking about. The new Nail Jack and Nail Hunter have amazing uses, more than just a claw bar. As stated above, there are tons of claw bars out there for $10 and it is true you get what you pay for....another claw bar at $10. There is no need to buy another one of these when you have a Nail Jack/Hunter in your tool belt, kitchen utility drawer, or tool box. Afterall, wood doesn't grow on trees!
