Monitor your electrical use
I knew that my refrigerator was the biggest energy hog in my house, but when I got out latest bill from the power company, it got me to thinking about the other devices that cause the electrical meter to spin. The Kill-A-Watt is a handy, inexpensive device that will tell you how much power you use. The unit's large LCD display counts consumption by the kilowatt-hour,
the same as your local utility. You can calculate your electrical
expenses by the day, week, month, or year. I plugged the Kill-A-Watt into the power strip that runs the TV, cable box, and DVD player, then I plugged in the power conditioner that's hooked into my mega stereo system, and then I plugged in the power strip that runs my office equipment. It's amazing how much power you use even when some devices are not even turned on. NewEgg has the best online price for a Kill-A-Watt.

I was watching Ask This Old House a few weeks ago (I don't know if it was a rerun or not) and one of your guys mentioned a device that you can strap on to the electric meter outside and then see how much power you are using (adn how much it is costing) in real time on a remote device inside the house. What is that called and wehre can I find one? I can't find it anywhere but part of the problem is that I don't know what to call it.

I saw the same show, also can find any information on that device. Does anyone know?
