Which multi-tool is right for Dad this Father's Day?
June 9, 2009
My own dad’s birthday falls just about a week before
Father’s Day, which means I experience a bit of an idea drought right before
June's double whammy of gift-giving. Luckily, both Dremel and Fein debuted some seriously useful multitasking tools in time for my annual present
crisis, so I’m feeling pretty confident this year.
The Dremel
model is the more economical version at about $99 and perfect for the DIYer dad
interested in making flush cuts
a pro would admire (not to mention the tool’s grinding, scraping, sanding and
grout removal capabilities). Loving
family members with deeper pockets might want to opt for the Fein
Mulitmaster Generation tool. Use this incredible oscillating system
for mini cuts or attach it to your workbench to address even the most detailed
project’s demands. Switch in the
round HSS saw blade and transform your multi-tool into a mini circular saw for making
precise cuts on laminate or hardwood floors. It’s a bit pricey at about $300, but it’s a carpenter’s
dream tool (at least that’s what my dad tells me, hint hint). And think about how fun it would be to
test out that mini circular saw on last year’s unopened box of burgundy ties…
