A no-waste solution for remodel leftovers
What to do with the extra 180 Ming Green marble tiles you didn't use in last year's bathroom remodel? Recycle, reuse, and make a little extra cash. Diggers List Construction Classifieds offers a green solution for those of us who overspend at the home center. The website lets homeowners and contractors sell and buy unused renovation materials -- think super-sized garage sale. Two insurance brokers founded the site after working with contractors and realizing how much waste goes along with the home remodeling industry. The brothers dreamt up an online tool to find new homes for usable construction supplies that otherwise would have filled garbage dumps (or your basement).
Anyone can visit the site to browse the classified ads for tools and goods from table saws to paint sealer to lumber. Poke around for some great deals, like the new 1-inch rotary hammer drill we found on the site for $125. A similar model at the hardware store could put you back more than $200. The site categorizes posts by city and then by type to simplify your search. Or, post your own ad for that concrete saw you "had to have" for your basement makeover, but probably won't be using again. The site makes money from advertising, so all posts are free to users.
Like all good ideas, Diggers List has grown. Now, in addition to finding materials, you can find contractors, from a local handyman to a British gardener in Brooklyn. To post a "service," contractors must join the site (but it's still free).

Recycling construction leftovers is a great solution to the growing waste disposal problem in constructions and buildings. Instead of just throwing them out, other people can use them as a piece to their building or home.
