Best watering can ever = OXO Good Grips Outdoor Pour & Store

July 7, 2009

Oxo-good-grips-watering-canThere's nothing to a watering can, right? Not much to think about in terms of design...

But, for argument's sake, let us explore what might happen if someone did think about the design of this most basic garden accessory. Wouldn't it be nice, for instance, if you could get your unwieldy, spouted can under just about any faucet? And, wouldn't it be nice to be able to measure your water levels if you needed to? And, how about the grip? It sure would be nice to slip-proof it somehow; make it less of a pain-in-the-hand to hold. Oh! And, a removable rose at the end of the spout, so that one could switch from a refreshing shower to a targeted stream, just-like-that. Wait, of course we'll need built-in storage that attachment right on the can because, let's face it, one might lose it otherwise.

If you hadn't guessed the "one" referenced above is me, mostly, but positive reviews on the Web back me up on this pick: OXO proves a little thought goes a long way with their Pour & Store.

This can features a spout that rotates to hug the body (shown, inset) for easy filling in any sink or under any faucet, and easy storage. The transparent spout allows you to monitor water levels against measuring-marks on the can. And, the continuous soft, non-slip handle wraps from the top of the unit to the back, for carrying and pouring in just about any space and at any height. The watering rose spout attachment is included and tucks nicely into an opening at the top of the can (also shown) when not in use.

It's available in this, the Outdoor Pour & Store 2.1 gallon (about $25), and two smaller sizes: the Indoor Pour & Store 3.17 qt (about $15) and the Mini Pour & Store (about $10). All available in green, yellow, blue, and orange.

Sounds great, but I always check customer comments on Amazon.com before buying anything, and several people had problems with it leaking after just a month of use.
