Egg-shaped chairs: You can't beat them
It's summertime people. And while I don't love the heat or humidity (I'm a fall and winter kind of girl), I do enjoy kicking back in a comfy chair, poolside, and drinking a cold glass of lemonade. So with the temperature rising I started scouring the market for outdoor chairs that not only looked cool, but had some sort of sheltering design that could help keep me cool.
Pottery Barn's Palmetto All-Weather Wicker Egg Chair is a fine example of what I want to sit on while in the sun. This retro-style find has a woven construction and two circular cutouts for beat-the-heat ventilation, and its domed top shades rays. Plus, it has plush throw pillows and a weatherproof cushion that is perfect for curling up on and taking a siesta. And even though this item truly is the best choice for those like me who want to participate in the season but not bake in the sun, at $1,039 (on special) it's not the best choice for my budget. Sigh.
So after searching and searching and searching for a less expensive chair that was spot on with the PB style item, I finally came across Target's Harmony Beach Pod Chair and Ottoman set. While this outdoor option is quite different than the one above, it was the best match I could find, what with its woven look, egg shape, and cushy cushions and pillows (all included). Most importantly though, this chair's peek-a-boo design, deep seat and high back will give you, or me, the same cool down and sheltering effect as the more pricey alternative. And best yet, this item is only $350. That's a $689 difference! Yes, I used a calculator for the math.
Even though I am digging the first chair best, the second style isn't a bad runner up. And something to keep in mind, the cost of both these pieces will probably be a little if not a lot less as the summer rolls on. That is, if they're still in stock. So keep checking the websites until the prices are right for you. All in all though, they're both good eggs (sorry, I had to).
