Pocket doors: Let's go to the videotape!
I'm a big fan of pocket doors--who isn't?--and I like to install them whenever possible. During our recent bathroom renovation, I installed three pocket doors, and then retrofitted two divided-lite French doors into a double-wide pocket-door entrance to our family room.
Unlike a traditional swinging door, a pocket door takes up no floor space, never has to be propped open, won't blow shut, and when fully opened, it's completely out of the way.
Of course, the very best thing about a pocket door is how it silently, almost magically glides into the wall.
If you'd like to install a pocket door, but need a little guidance, then you're in luck.
L.E. Johnson Products, the world's leading manufacturer of pocket-door hardware, recently produced an animated video that shows all the steps required to hang a pocket door.
The 10-minute video walks you through each and every step of the process from framing the rough opening and setting the header, to installing the split jambs and trimming the doorway.
The video isn't meant to replace the excellent installation instructions that come with each L.E. Johnson pocket-door kit, but it does help demystify the process and provide a bit of DIY encouragement, as well.
