You really could live in your pool all summer...if you had an amphibious PC

July 10, 2009

Pc-of-the-swim-rings-dreams-to-play-amphibious-pc-at-the-sea-1 People used to jump into pools to escape work and email. The popularity of this prototype—a floating PC called the "PC of the Swim-Rings"—suggests that some people want to take their email with them.

The gadget was designed as part of Imagine Cup's Next Gen PC Design Competition by a kid who obviously misses his computer a great deal when he leaves it to splash around for a bit. The solar-powered thing features GPS tracking (lost at sea?), touchscreen technology (hate typing?), and a water cooling system for the processor.

Not digging it, yet? Eh, me neither. Well, at least it's got a stereo speaker set. Here are some other amphibious and floating accessories that'd go great with buoyant beats.

Floating-patio-set This amphibious patio set, available from Hammacher Schlemmer, is designed to allow each piece to submerge and settle on the pool floor. So, your lower body wades while your upper body (along with playing cards, magazines, etc) remains dry. It's made of rustproof powder-coated aluminum and resists damage due to exposure by pool chemicals and sun.

The RC Snack Float (left below), available from Brookstone, allows you to deliver five drinks and a bowl of snacks to your guests in the pool from the comfort of your lounge chair. How? Remote control, of course. Water-lounging solo? Keep your remote out of the aqua and you won't have to leave the pool for a drink for hours.

If you need more than just snacks and a seat to really relax, try the iPod Stereo Pool Oasis (right below), also available from Hammacher. This thing has built-in speakers, a compartment for  your MP3 player, and a massager with four motors to provide relief for the lower and upper back, thighs, and calves.

Wow, this is how I should be doing work! Of course, I would also need to get a pool.
