Getting a handle on handsaws
There's a rumor that all the engineers at Stanley Tools are named Stanley. Now I don't know if that's true or not, but whatever their names are, they are a very clever bunch.
Here, fresh from the drawing board is the Stanley FatMax Xtreme Instant-Change Handsaw, one of the most ingeniously designed, versatile and economical hand tools I've seen in quite some time.
First and foremost, this is a high-quality, comfortable-to-use, fast-cutting saw. But what's really unique is that the tool consists of a removable handle and two interchangeable 15-inch-long saw blades: an 11 tooth-per-inch fine-finish blade, and a seven tooth-per-inch aggressive-cutting blade. Each super-sharp steel blade has an odd, but precisely shaped end that has two hooks and a hole, which fits perfectly into a slot in the handle (left).
The handle is also equipped with a special double-locking mechanism that firmly grabs onto the blade to eliminate every bit of wiggle.
The Instant-Change Handsaw with two blades costs about $20, but Stanley offers seven other blades--ranging from $7 to $10 each--that you can purchase separately, including the 15-inch tree-pruning blade (below).
