Happy Weatherization Day, people!
So October 30th is, among other things, National Weatherization Day, and TOH has compiled some of its best energy efficiency content to help get your home up to snuff this winter. Set down that fun-size Snickers for a moment and consider some of these energy-saving options before the temperature really starts to drop...
1. Make sure your windows are chill-proof.
2. Make sure your doors are draft-defying.
3. Attack the attic before it attacks you.
4. Is your insulation's R-value right or wrong?
5. Detect drafts like a pro.
6. Leave no crawl space unwarmed.
As a final tip, I recommend checking out the Sierra Club's incredibly handy checklist for making your home function more efficiently during the summer and winter months. The recently passed 2009 Recovery Act alloted $5 billion in weatherization funds to homes in need, so those of us who can afford to weatherize should really consider the benefits not just for our own energy bills, but for the greater greener good.
Okay, you can go back to the chocolate now. Not a bad idea, actually...
