Knot too shabby
October 24, 2009
When I was a kid my dad tried his best to impart his encyclopedic knot tying knowledge on to me, but aside from a handful of useful knots I never came close to mastering them all. Thankfully, the next time I need to tie a Sheepshank I won’t break a sweat. I haven’t been practicing; I just downloaded Knot Guide from Winkpass Creations. Knot Guide is a handy little iPhone app that’s loaded with over 70 different knots in a multitude of categories (climbing, hitching, decorative, binding etc.), complete with screen-to-screen instructions and description of each knot’s typical purpose. Knot Guide is on sale for $1.99 through the iTunes store, half off its usual price. What’s knot to love?

That looks cool but the image that comes to mind is one of a fellow hanging from a rope by one hand while running this app on his iPhone with the other.
I once heard a rigging instructor proudly proclaim that he only knew ten, or so, knots; keep it simple and stick to what works was his philosophy.
Leave all the fancy knots to the yachties!
