Quick-fire fencing nailer

October 8, 2009

Fencing

As the popularity of pneumatic tools continues to grow, more and more manufacturers are redesigning existing tools and developing new ones to meet the demands of both professional contractors and active do-it-yourselfers. Here's a case in point:

Duo-Fast just recently introduced a brand-spanking new air-powered nailer--the Model DF225C Coil Siding Nailer--that's specifically designed for installing siding, decking and fencing. And while this new high-performance tool will certainly save you the drugery of hand nailing, that's only part of its appeal.

The DF225C has an easy-open cylindrical magazine that accepts coils of plastic-collated nails. The tool can fire three types of nails--smooth-, ring- or screw-shanked--ranging in length from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches.

It has a tool-less depth-of-drive mechanism that you can easily adjust to ensure that you don't over-drive or under-drive the nails. And the DF225C weighs just 4 1/2 pounds, which you'll appreciate at the end of a long day of nailing.

The big advantage that a coil nailer has over a typical stick nailer, which accepts strips of nails, is nail capacity. Most stick framing nailers can only hold 50 or so nails.

The magazine on this Duo-Fast coil nailer can hold up to 300 nails. That means you could nail down a 200-foot-long deck board, driving two nails every 16 inches, before you'd have to reload. The DF225C retails for about $379.
