Dustbuster's grandchild

December 1, 2009

Flex
Thirty years ago, Black & Decker introduced the Dustbuster handheld vacuum, and forever changed how people--and industrial designers--looked at vacuum cleaners.

Well, B&D is at it again. The company just introduced the Flex Cordless Mini Canister Vac, which is the most thoughtfully designed and versatile handheld vacuum I've ever used. And it's surprisingly powerful, too, especially when you consider that the Flex isn't much bigger than a kid's lunch box.

The Flex is ideal for quick pick ups and routine cleaning throughout the house. It's not meant to replace a standard full-size vacuum cleaner, but you'll definitely be using your household vac a lot less with the Flex.

Weighing in at less than 4 pounds, this cordless mini-vac is easy to carry around from room to room and up and down stairs. It's equipped with a flexible 4-foot-long hose that can be used while still attached to the vacuum (near left), or extended for reaching window blinds and shelves (below left).

The Flex features a 12-volt, high-performance motor with cyclonic action that quickly collects dust and debris. It comes with three useful accessories: a long crevice tool for cleaning tight, narrow spaces; 2-in-1 nozzle brush for general cleaning; and a unique pet-hair removal tool that scrubs up and sucks away stubborn pet hair from virtually any surface. There's even a plastic caddy that you can snap onto the vacuum's base for storing the accessories.

The vac is equipped with a plastic pre-filter and a pleated filter for superior dust containment. And, the see-through, flip-open door makes emptying super-easy. The Flex Cordless Mini Canister Vac retails for about $70.

Hi

I have a dustbuster by Breville and I must say it's pretty ordinary to say the least. This mini vac looks fantastic and will solve my problem of lugging the home vac out into the garage to clean the car. I watched the video and was amazed at how small and compact this unit is. Could be a Christmas gift for my wife (only joking).
Regards
Damien

Hey Damien: Yes, this Flex vac is a cool little machine. And because it's cordless and quite compact, it's ideal for vacuuming out cars. Plus, it's much more powerful and versatile than the average dustbuster. With all that said, you're right, it's probably a bad idea to give your wife a vacuum--any vacuum--for Christmas. But that doesn't mean you can't request a Flex for yourself!

I'm not so sure if the vacuum pictured above is quite what I'm looking for. Was wondering if anyone on here had any suggestions regarding vacuums for pet hair. A friend purchased one for me as a gift but it didn't work well at all - taking it back. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and they all shed A TON! Any suggestions would be appreciated.
