Like Us On Facebook to See Deals of the Day
This is it, readers -- the end of an era. The Hardware Aisle is finally closing shop, clearing the shelves, pulling down the gates for the last time. It's been a great run: More than 3,000 posts and millions of pageviews, as you learned about tools we love, techniques we've perfected, products we recommend, and deals we've shared.
The good news is that if you're a fan of our Deal of the Day posts, you can continue getting them. They're just moving to Facebook. Like our page there and you'll get them in your news feed every day. We hope to even feature them all on a separate tab at facebook.com/thisoldhouse, so keep an eye out for that in the coming months.
Hardware Aisle posts will continue to be available through search at thisoldhouse.com, so if there's something you remember reading about, you can still find it on our site.
Thanks, friends -- it's been a great run!

Well that is a terrible user experience. Why from a business and technical perspective would you hide content (that you are probably making money on = Ad sales) from your main content site to another site (FB) which not everyone uses? The idea that moving traffic/content to FB is mind boggling to me. I get you don't want to double publish but in this day and age a simple FBXML feed from your FB page back to your Hardware Aisle would be pretty easy and you would not lose visitors (read: Ad impressions) like myself. Why do product folks think that FB is the place for content sharing?? Sorry for the harsh tone, but come on Product people lets think this one through...
Horrible move.
Did a 23 year old "social media expert" get hired and make this decision?
I got talked into trying Facebook. I hated it. I don't get this, "You've got to do Facebook to see this, or comment on this, or enter this" crap. A lot of people don't do Facebook, or Twitter. And I'm one of us.
I don't want to see just the "Deals of the Day", the only reason I even bother to check the TOH site is because there WAS new content every day - in The Hardware Aisle and once in a while in the "Old House My House Blog". Other than that it's all recycled content from the magazine. I suppose I should be grateful that you've saved me having to make this stop on my daily internet tour. The TV show is great, the magazine is so-so and now the website just plain misses the mark. Thanks TOH, and adios.
Yikes!
Welp...you just lost me as a subscriber. Good luck getting me back even if you do resume this feed. I'm deleting the feed from my reader (since it's no longer updating), and won't likely check back to see if it's ever resumed.
It was fun while it lasted I guess.
This is okay by me, I'm new to TOH and really it doesn't matter how I come by the info. FB is part of today, and so am I. There may be some hitches with it, but overall its been good for me. I'll be happy to read your TOH posts there. Happy trails!
Insanely bad move unless you are launching a bigger, better editor blog. How ridiculously stupid otherwise.
I agree with the majority here. This is ridiculous. Facebook fans don't want to be linked to products!!!! You'll be killing you Facebook page and blogosphere presence in one fell swoop. Nice job, Mr. Bandon.
No kidding....this is a lousy move. It's funny that every time I hear Kevin O'Connor says something like, "You can check it out on thisoldhouse.com..", I always wonder if he knows what kind of joke this website actually is. I don't know why I've been wasting my time this long.
